| About Our Staff | ||
Composer Miles Grant Ito was born in Los Angeles, California. Miles Ito began his study of piano at the age of four. Since a young child, music teachers identified Miles to be highly gifted, and to have an excellent ear. Miles continued to study music throughout his childhood and began composing when he was twelve. When he was fifteen, he became one of eight understudies of piano performance under concert pianist, Mark Richman. Under Mark, Miles began to keenly develop his music training by training his ear, learning voicing, phrasing and style, intimately studying the masterpieces of the great classical composers, and understanding how to truly express himself through his music…It was at that time that Miles realized, “with music, there is much more written between the staff than on it.” Miles has always had a keen interest and aptitude for computers and technology. In 2000 he completed his degree in Electrical Engineering at UCLA and also has a degree emphasis in Music. During this time, Miles' profound talent for music extended beyond conventional music composition and into the realm of film score composition. During three years of his college career, he had the privilege of working as an apprentice to film composer, mentor, and friend, Alex Wurman. While Miles had already begun scoring music for various short films in college, Alex Wurman taught Miles how to control the music and about the notion that sometimes music scarcity can be extremely powerful. During this time, Miles also worked for jingle composer, Bobby Summerfield creating music for television commercials and documentaries. Miles has developed an extremely diverse range of composing styles ranging from traditional classical to techno, from jazz to contemporary urban styles - such as Hip-Hop and R&B. Miles Ito's music and versatile style is unique and highly engaging. His music can sweep you from the sweet calm of a mid-summer's day to an instant of relentless heart-aching passion and yearning.
